Possible Reschedule of November Scrimmage
Hello NM FTC Teams & volunteers!
A question to everyone about the planned November FTC scrimmage event in Alamogordo. I understand from FIRST that there have been delays in getting materials and equipment shipped out. I think it’s also sounding like some teams may have struggled to get going and are feeling they may not be ready for a mid-November event. The Alamogordo Tournament Director and I are wondering if we should delay the November scrimmage until mid-late January. What do folks think about that? Would it help? Please respond with your thoughts.
We would still hold the Socorro Scrimmage on Dec 11. It would be robot competition only. That gives you three weeks longer to prepare your robots.
For an Alamogordo scrimmage held in January, we would probably add the remote judging practice to the event. As discussed at the kickoff, we do currently plan to use the hybrid model for our events where robot competition is in-person and judging is remote.
Also, FIRST is aware there have been delays in getting full challenge sets from AndyMark & electronics from Rev. They’ve been told by many suppliers that shipments may be delayed due to the current production & shipping issues I’m sure you’ve all heard about. They recommend that teams order things they think they will need for the season very early.
As with last season, we will probably charge one flat fee for both scrimmages and the state championship. All NM teams are welcome at all three events. As soon as we get the dates settled, we’ll post the registration details.
Thanks!
Jim Jackson, NM FTC Program Delivery Partner.
